This collection is based on a series of original drawings by Mainie Jellett.(1897-1944). She made many rug designs in the late 1920′s and 1930′s. They were small works in gouache on card or paper – all her designs were in this format as it was a more controlled medium as far as colour was concerned. At the time a number of rugs were made by Mainie Jellett and her family at their home in Fitzwilliam Square. Others were executed by The Dun Emir Guild, The Irish Countrywomens Association and some more bya firm in Paris. None are known to have survived.
This collection are produced by kind permission of the representatives of the Jellett estate and are made by Ceadogan in Wexford.
